SHANGRI-LA´S FAR EASTERN PLAZA CUISINE | 香格里拉台北遠東國際大飯店
Hi everyone! New destination, Taiwan! Continuing exploring Asia and its wonders, we spent a few days in Taipei, the capital city of one of the 4 Asian Dragons.
We flew there with the goal of discovering the trendy Taiwanese Fashion brands and designers. Thus the Fashion Week and the TIS (Taiwan In Style) were taking place during our stay. As you know us, going in one of the trendiest hotel in town for such a fashionable weekend was obvious to us to complete the perfect week end. Shangri-La Far East Plaza Hotel appeared to be ideal.
Tallest hotel in the city, the Shangri-La is located in the heart of Taipei. Despite celebrating its 20th anniversary, we have been impressed as soon as we stepped in. First the lobby, with a décor mixing perfectly Eastern and Western touches. Then, the Premier King room amazed us thanks to its vast facilities, the fruit selection waiting for us with a personal note, the stunning view over the city facing the 101 tower and its highly functional dressing room suiting ideally the clothes we brought there!
The bathroom, still with view, has all the amenities you can expect for a perfect stay, and includes a TV! We did a bath – movie session and jumped straight afterwards in the fluffy robes. Having such tranquility being able to enjoy the buzzing capital of Taiwan is luxury we are looking for.
I said we have been impressed, right? It was not a joke. The ultimate experience was the bed, believe it or not. A pillow menu has been proposed to us! It is something we never saw before! Signature Shangri-La bookmark and essence of Shangri-La spray reminded how these hotel chain always provide us with a top quality service.
Attending TIS the Friday and the Saturday, we decided to spend our Sunday chilling at the hotel. You will quickly figure out why there is no need to get out of the Shangri-La.
We started the day with an early spa, after having booked a couple massage in the Qi Shiseido Salon. The prestigious Japanese cosmetics brand spoiled us with an impeccable service and relaxing atmosphere. We are so glad not having missed soothing moment. Situated at the 40th floor, the spa is definitely a must-try. They have studied programs designed to revitalize, re-energize, cleanse and purify or simply relax. This describes our feeling after our one hour treatment.
After a quick shower, we continued our day having lunch at the brand new Japanese restaurant. Ibuki by TAKAGI KAZUO is Taiwan’s first Japanese restaurant to operate in concordance with Michelin standards. The restaurant follows and practices the culinary concepts of Consultant Chef Takagi Kazuo, the owner and head chef of Takagi in Japan, a restaurant that has earned two Michelin stars. We tried the teppanyaki station. Such a savory moment! We highly recommend the place to anyone looking for a great restaurant in Taipei, whether for lunch or dinner. Meat, fish, veggies are all cooked according to traditional technics, and will satisfy a wide range of tastes and diets, all of this in a private room. A small walk in the interior garden totatlly worth it as well.
Midafternoon, we moved up to the 38th floor, not to try the multi award winner Italian restaurant, Marco Polo, but simply to take the high-tea there. Again, the view is outstanding. Due to its combination of comfy sofas plus delicate and various pastries, the time flies other there. The chic atmosphere makes this high tea a place to be during Sundays for Taipei’s trendy youth! You cannot miss this out if you have the chance to spend a Sunday in Taiwan’s capital city.
Our weekend ended on the rooftop, by the pool. As always, with a view, but here brought to another level. On top of being outside, the roof has a stunning 360°C panoramic overhang on the city.
Oh I forgot! Unfortunately, we didn´t have time to try all restaurants. However, we had breakfast in both places proposed, the traditional one and the breakfast at Horizon Club Lounge at 36F. Each of them proposes a different atmosphere, still excellent at the same time. The main breakfast buffet had all kind of food, wide variety of dishes but also fresh juices, all kind of pastries and fruits, different areas with continental and oriental dishes representing the cuisines from around the world. It was packed that´s true, but we never did line to get anything.
On the other hand, the Horizon club offers a relaxing and cozy ambient with charming decoration and beautiful views. Part of the breakfast is buffet (like the main breakfast) but much more smaller, some pastries, yogurt, fresh juices or cheeses are part of the experience. But additionally, it offers a menu where you can order a la carte.
