RIAD ANATA | SOME MAGIC IN THE MEDINA
We felt in love with the most gorgeous Riad we had the chance to visit during our stay in Fez.
Valerie, the Belgium owner and founder, opened about five years ago. The Raid is composed of 5 rooms, which are tastefully decorated with clear colours, although keeping a traditional touch.
A lovely team welcomed us. We felt home. The first morning after the night of our arrival, we went shopping at the local market, close to the Blue Gate, with Samira, the cook. She taught us how to prepare some local dish: Lentil soup, beef and turkey tagine with peas, artichoke and fennel, cauliflower with its traditional spices, and broad bean. All ingredients you can find on the market are grown locally, in the Fes area. Samira, the cook master chef, will recommend you what to eat, you just need to order a bit in advance and she will make the best local meals for you. It has been such a great experience feeling the city vibe, its tastes and odours thanks to a local woman. Also, Fes people have been a wonderful surprise to us, due to their kindness and generosity.
At the Riad, we enjoyed our breakfasts and meals at the comfy rooftop, overlooking the old Medina. We never got bored of the view and of these peaceful moments. The patio got a well-supplied library where you can enjoy your reading and a glass of wine. I tried some local red wine, it was honestly and surprisingly good.
For families, Valerie is offering the possibility to rent the entire Riad. We highly recommend it for the ones planning a trip to Fez.
For us, it is time to move to Rabat, and leave this magic place and the world's largest medina.
Stay tuned.
